You don’t have to be a Pentagon Federal Credit Union member to benefit from Dream Makers, and you can apply the grant to a mortgage from any financial institution.

How Do I Qualify?
You’re eligible for a Dream Makers grant if:
You’re Military (Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard or Veteran), a Department of Defense employee or a Department of Homeland Security employee.
You’re a first-time home buyer, or you have not owned a home for the last three years, or you have lost your home through divorce or disaster.
The gross household income, including allowances, that you use to qualify for your mortgage loan is:
A maximum of $55,000 per year, or
A maximum of 80% of your community’s median income based on your family size

What Steps Do I Take?
Decide the amount of money you will contribute to your mortgage financing.
$500 is the minimum amount for you to contribute.
Dream Makers will match that three-to-one, up to our maximum of $5000.
Estimate the size of your mortgage loan. Decide if the money you contribute, plus the Dream Makers grant, will be at least 3% of mortgage amount. You must put 3% down to qualify for the grant.
Fill out Dream Makers application. The fastest way to complete it is online.
You may apply when you start to think about purchasing a home: you don’t have to select a home and/or a mortgage company before you submit your application. To fax or email, download this form.
We will respond to your application with instructions on the process. When you select your mortgage company, you will share the contact information with the Foundation who will coordinate the grant paperwork process with your lender.

Please visit http://www.pentagonfoundation.org/to fill out the online application and for more details on eligibility.

The City of SSF has brought back their sewer lateral program back…

Let the City of South San Francisco help you replace that leaky old sewer lateral and help you pay for it! The City of South San Francisco’s Sewer Lateral Grant Program will cover 50% of the cost, up to $2,500, by following program requirements. The City is offering a program to help residents improve their sewer systems and in the process help reduce inflow and infiltration (I&I) into the sewer lines, which can improve the quality of the waters of the San Francisco Bay.

WHAT IS A SEWER LATERAL?

Within the City of South San Francisco, the building lateral is defined as the portion of the sewer system, beginning at the junction with the house plumbing system, usually located two (2) feet from the foundation wall of the building, and extending to and including the connection to the public sewer main. The building lateral is the private property of the property owner who is, therefore, responsible for all costs relating to the installation, connection, maintenance, repair, reconstruction, alteration, abandonment or removal of the building lateral.

These building laterals are often a significant source of infiltration and inflow of additional water, or “I & I”. The Sewer Lateral Replacement Grant Program, or “SLRGP”, is designed to help defray a portion of the costs when the property owner or their agent is required to replace the entire lateral including the connection to the main.

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!

Belmont Greek Festival
Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-5
With the aroma of luscious barbecued lamb and the strains of upbeat bouzouki music, the 41st Annual Belmont Greek Festival swirls into the mid-Peninsula on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 3, through Monday, September 5, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas (corner of Ralston Avenue), in Belmont.
The three-day extravaganza is expected to draw nearly 20,000 visitors for the homemade Greek meals, specially-prepared desserts, nonstop entertainment and fun children’s amusement area, according to festival organizers.
“We want our guests to sample Greek hospitality at its best,” said Festival Co-chairman Gary Brenner.
“When Greeks entertain, they put out their finest of everything, and first and foremost, that means their best cooking,” Brenner said, “which means a lot of labor and a lot of love.”
“Our festival chefs make everything the old-fashioned way. They use family recipes handed down by their parents and grandparents, they use fresh ingredients, and they never, ever cut corners!” Brenner added.
Some of the favorite festival menu items will include barbecued lamb chops (with special Greek seasonings), souvlakia (Greek shish-kebab), spanakopita (spinach and cheese stuffed inside layers of filo pastry) and dolmades (grape leaves wrapped around ground beef and rice).
There will also be traditional homemade Greek pastries such as loukoumades (doughnut holes covered with honey), baklava (layers of nuts and filo pastry soaked in honey), kourambiedes (crescent-shaped butter cookies covered with powdered sugar) and galactobouriko (filo pastry filled with custard and covered with syrup).??
“And don’t forget our newest dessert – baklava ice cream sundaes!” Brenner enthused. “It may not come straight from the old country, but it’s sure delicious!”
On the plaka, or central plaza, visitors will enjoy continuous music from a Greek band so they can dance the traditional kalamatiano, tsamiko, zeimbekiko and other Greek dances. The amazing “Sons of Ulysses” will dazzle the audience by lifting tables and chairs with nothing but their teeth!
In addition, award-winning folk dance groups will perform throughout the weekend in their colorful, hand-made costumes.
In an outdoor amphitheater reminiscent of the ancient theaters of Greece, children and adults alike will enjoy a special theatrical production spotlighting the heroes and villains of Greek mythology. The popular Festival Singers and Folk Ensemble will also perform Greek folk songs in the amphitheater.
Also, children’s entertainer Andy Z will take the amphitheater stage to present his award-winning show featuring imaginative songs, stories, dances and colorful characters.
The Fun Zone children’s area will offer games, rides, bouncy castles, crafts and more.
Tours of the award-winning Byzantine-style church, including the recently-installed mosaic iconography, will be given throughout the weekend, and the Holy Cross Choir will sing during the first church tour on Sunday.
Other festival highlights will include the agora (flea market), art, clothing, jewelry and gift boutiques, cooking demonstrations, religious icons and a bookstore.
The Church of the Holy Cross supports many charitable groups throughout San Mateo County, and each year, the church donates a portion of the festival proceeds to several local charities. Previous recipients of festival donations have included Samaritan House, Interfaith Network for Community Help (INCH), Children’s Advocacy Council, local schools and churches and the Belmont mayor’s choice of charity.
The hours of the Belmont Greek Festival are Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4, from Noon to 10 PM, and on Monday, September 5, from Noon to 8 PM. The Fun Zone for children is open Noon to 7 PM all three days. The agora (flea market) closes at 6 PM all three days.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors and youth ages 13-17. Children 12 and under are admitted free, accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Prudential California Realty San Bruno is hosting it’s 4th annual shredding event. This is a complimentary service we as a company provide to our community as a way of giving back. Due to the success and evolution of the event, it has has afforded us the opportuntity to assist more of the community by providing two trucks to ensure every last document gets shredded safely. Last year we shredded over 1 ton of paper and hope to shred even more this year!

The process couldn’t be anymore easier. You simply pull into the parking lot where a Prudential agent will greet you and off load your documents for you.
An extra added bonus is that the truck has a video monitor that you can view as your documents are being lifted into the truck. This gives you the extra assurance that your documents are being safely destroyed. We also provide refreshments for your enjoyment. It truly is a wonderful event.
Prudential San Bruno holds this event annually, so make sure to mark your calendars every April, we typically schedule the event around Earth Day.

For your viewing pleasure and to get a sneak peak of how the event all goes down, please click the link below of a video of last years event.

This information was just released and I thought I would share it with the residents and future residents of the affected neighborhoods. This information was taken from the City of San Mateo’s website. I have attached the link below.

Levee Project Update – March 2011
// Project Construction Contract Awarded!

Project Status Update
In January the City Council awarded a contract to Maggiora and Ghilotti Inc., for construction of the Bayfront Levee Improvements South of San Mateo Creek Project. The notice to proceed with construction was issued on Febarury 16, 2011, and the contractor is currently preparing submittals. There are many required submitals which must be received and approved by the City prior to beginning the physical work. For example, a stormwater pollution prevention plan must be submitted, and this is a critical item which requires considerable lead time to prepare and review. It is anticipated that mobilization to the Detroit Drive parking lot (the staging and storage area) will begin this month, with construction to commence shortly thereafter. Construction will last approximately 12-16 months. Once construction has been completed, FEMA will issue a revised flood map and approximately 4,000 homes (north of Highway 92) will be removed and 2,000 homes (south of 92) will be precluded from the Special Flood Hazard Area. City officials will be working diligently with FEMA to have the levee work certified upon completion and to see the the revised flood map is issued as soon as possible upon completion of the project.

Areas Re-Zoned to Zone A99
On December 14, 2010, FEMA issued a Letter of Map Revision which re-zoned certain areas on the 2001 flood map to Zone A99. The rezoning affects the Shoreview neighborhood (South of San Mateo Creek); Parkside; Sunnybrae; 19th Avenue Park; and communities along the Marina Lagoon north of Highway 92.

Properties located in Zone A99 are still required to carry flood insurance; however, the rezoning acknowledges progress made to date on improving San Mateo’s flood infrastructure. As a result, some residents may be eligible for a reduced insurance premium.

Property owners who procured insurance after 10/19/2001 and are currently paying for a “High Risk Policy” would potentially eligible for a ”Standard Rated Policy” with the new A99 designation. However, those property owners who are already grandfathered into a Standard Rated Policy will not see any reduction in premiums as a result of the new A99 zoning. Contact your insurance agent to determine your rate category and inquire if the new A99 zoning results in any discount. Click Here for more information on flood insurance rates.

Status of the New Flood Zone Map (the DFIRM)
Many property owners South of Highway 92 have wondered, “When will the map that impacts my home be finalized?” The revised Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) which was issued by FEMA in April 2008 remains preliminary. It is anticipated FEMA will issue the letter of final determination for the DFIRM in the Summer of 2011. The DFIRM would then become effective 6 months after issuance of the letter of final determination. It is our hope that significant progress can be made on the levee project between now and then – enough so as to potenially dissuade map finalization until after the levee work has been completed.

What Do I Need To Do Now?
During the next several months, property owners are urged to follow this issue closely. Owners in the proposed new flood map will have the ability to purchase insurance at the Preferred Risk rate if secured at least thirty days in advance of the Final Map.

Check out the latest Assessment District Newsletter for additional information.
